Boston, MA – A quick-moving storm system will bring a round of widespread rain to southern New England beginning Thursday afternoon and lasting through early Friday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Boston/Norton.
Forecasters say moderate to heavy rainfall will develop Thursday evening as the system moves west to east across Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. Rain will likely continue overnight, easing before daybreak Friday.
While the heaviest precipitation may occur late Thursday night, the NWS does not expect widespread flooding, though minor street or poor-drainage flooding could develop in urban areas.
Most locations across the region can expect steady rainfall totals between 0.5 and 1.5 inches, with higher amounts possible in localized pockets. Conditions will improve by Friday afternoon as skies gradually clear.
Drivers are advised to allow extra travel time Thursday night into Friday morning due to wet roads and reduced visibility.
