Massachusetts – Chilly conditions paired with dry weather are raising fire concerns across southern New England today. Forecasts indicate that temperatures will peak in the mid-50s, remaining below seasonal averages, while dry air and recent gusty winds amplify the risk of fire development. The National Weather Service (NWS) advises residents to avoid outdoor burning and handle ignition sources with caution as conditions persist.

According to the NWS, Worcester County and areas across the Berkshires could experience highs only reaching the upper 40s in elevated regions. West winds, expected to be less intense than recent days, should moderate to 6-11 mph. However, low humidity levels, ranging from 25% to 40%, continue to support heightened fire risk. Residents driving along major routes, including I-90 and I-84, should stay alert, as roadside fires could develop quickly due to these dry conditions.

Tonight, temperatures will dip to around 36 degrees in Boston under partly cloudy skies. The cool trend will extend into Monday, with clear skies and highs only reaching 51 degrees. Monday night could bring the week’s coldest overnight low at 33 degrees, so residents should plan for freezing temperatures early in the week.

By Tuesday, conditions warm slightly to 57 degrees with calm winds, but there’s a 50% chance of rain late Tuesday night. Wednesday brings warmer weather, climbing to a high of 73, and mostly cloudy skies. The week’s warmest day, Thursday, is expected to reach 78 degrees, offering some relief from the chill.
