Beatrice, Nebraska – Slippery roads could develop within hours across southern Nebraska as light snow and freezing drizzle move in before the Monday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for Jefferson, Gage, Johnson, Nemaha, Pawnee, Richardson, and Saline counties until 9 a.m. CST Monday. Forecasters expect up to 1 inch of snow or a wintry mix this afternoon and evening, followed by freezing drizzle early Monday that could leave up to one-tenth of an inch of ice.

Even a light glaze can freeze bridges and overpasses first, especially along U.S. Highway 77 near Beatrice, Highway 75 toward Auburn and Falls City, and rural roads across Pawnee and Richardson counties. Crete and Wilber in Saline County may also see slick conditions before sunrise.

The Nebraska Department of Transportation urges drivers to slow down and allow extra stopping distance. Check 511 for the latest road conditions and consider delaying non-essential travel during the early morning hours.

Hazardous travel could linger through mid-morning Monday, and additional advisories remain possible if icing becomes more widespread.
