Scottsbluff, Neb. – Residents across the southern Nebraska Panhandle should be prepared for a round of evening storms that could turn severe. The National Weather Service in Cheyenne warns that isolated strong cells may produce gusty winds and large hail between 5 p.m. and midnight Saturday.
According to the NWS, the greatest threat will target communities from Kimball and Sidney north toward Scottsbluff and Alliance. These storms are expected to remain scattered, but any that develop could pack damaging wind gusts over 50 mph and hail up to quarter size.
Drivers along I-80 between Kimball and Sidney should be alert for sudden downpours and reduced visibility during the evening commute. Outdoor events in the area should have quick shelter options available, and residents are urged to keep phones charged and weather alerts enabled.
While storms will diminish after midnight, additional showers are possible Sunday. The NWS advises keeping multiple ways to receive warnings in case conditions change rapidly.
