St. Louis, MO – Dry conditions and breezy weather on Monday could lead to an increased risk of fires across Missouri, according to the National Weather Service. The elevated fire danger is due to dry grasses and gusty winds, creating the potential for rapid fire spread if flames ignite.
Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and take precautions such as properly discarding cigarettes and avoiding sparks from equipment. Stay vigilant to prevent fires from starting, especially in rural areas and along roadways like I-70, where conditions could worsen.
According to the National Weather Service, the work week will begin with sunny skies and above-average temperatures, reaching highs near 47°F on Monday and climbing to 52°F on Tuesday. Low temperatures will hover between 25°F and 37°F at night. Despite this warm spell, rain chances will increase late in the week, bringing much-needed moisture to the region.
Rain is expected to begin Thursday evening with a 30% chance and increase to a 70% likelihood by Friday, particularly in southern Missouri and Illinois. Temperatures will remain steady, with highs in the 40s and lows near freezing. These conditions could result in slick roads, especially during Friday morning commutes.
Drivers should exercise caution on major roadways like I-70 and I-55 later this week as precipitation creates hazardous conditions. Monday’s sunny weather provides an opportunity to prepare for rain by securing loose outdoor items and clearing drainage areas.
Looking ahead, the weekend will bring a mix of sun and clouds with highs near 55°F, offering relief after the rainy end to the week.
