Jackson, MS – Black ice is creating hazardous driving conditions across southern Mississippi and central Louisiana. Motorists are urged to use extreme caution when traveling, especially on bridges and overpasses.
According to the National Weather Service, icy patches developed following snowfall earlier this week. The freezing conditions are expected to persist into Wednesday morning, posing risks for travelers during peak commute hours.
Black ice, a thin layer of nearly invisible ice, forms on roads and is particularly treacherous on elevated surfaces like bridges and ramps. Drivers are encouraged to reduce speeds, increase following distances, and avoid sudden braking to maintain control.
Temperatures are expected to remain near freezing overnight, preventing significant thawing. Authorities advise travelers to plan ahead, check road conditions, and consider delaying trips if possible.
