Minneapolis, MN – The National Weather Service in the Twin Cities is tracking two rounds of snow expected to impact Minnesota from Friday morning through Saturday night, with travel disruptions possible across both metro and southern regions.

The first system will bring light snow early Friday, arriving just in time for the morning commute. Snowfall amounts will generally stay between 1 and 3 inches, but forecasters caution that timing will create slick roads and reduced visibility during peak travel hours.

According to the NWS Twin Cities, snow will taper off Friday afternoon before a second, stronger system moves in Saturday afternoon, targeting southern Minnesota. The heaviest snow is expected along and south of I-90, where 3 to 6 inches are possible.

Forecast models show a high probability (over 70%) of at least 1 inch of snow in Mankato, Albert Lea, and Worthington, with a moderate chance of 4 inches or more in the far south.

Drivers are urged to allow extra travel time, slow down, and avoid sudden braking, particularly on untreated roads and bridges. The NWS reminds motorists that even light snow can cause hazardous travel when combined with freezing pavement temperatures.
