St. Joseph, MI – Residents of Berrien, Cass, and St. Joseph counties are under a Winter Storm Watch starting Wednesday evening. The National Weather Service warns of hazardous conditions as an arctic front moves into the region.
The storm will bring rain and snow Wednesday afternoon, transitioning to heavy lake-effect snow overnight into Thursday morning. Snowfall totals could reach up to 7 inches, with wind gusts of 30 to 40 mph creating dangerous travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service, the watch will remain in effect from 7 p.m. Wednesday until 1 a.m. Friday. Blowing and drifting snow may significantly reduce visibility, particularly on rural roads and highways.
Officials urge residents to avoid unnecessary travel and prepare for potential power outages due to strong winds. Light snow accumulations are also expected outside the watch area, especially north of US-30.
