Lake Charles, La. – Tropical moisture continues to drench southern Louisiana on Friday, triggering a Flash Flood Watch that remains in effect through 7 p.m. Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, a surface trough and tropical-like air mass will bring widespread showers and thunderstorms across the region today, with some storms producing 1 to 3 inches of rainfall in a short time. Areas from Alexandria to Morgan City face the highest risk, especially where grounds are already saturated.
Localized flooding could impact roads, neighborhoods, and low-lying areas. Rain chances in cities like Lake Charles, Lafayette, and Opelousas hover around 75% for both Friday and Saturday morning and afternoon hours. Officials urge residents to avoid driving through flooded roads and to monitor alerts from local emergency managers.
In southeast Texas, communities including Beaumont and Jasper could also see heavy rain through Saturday, though the flash flood risk is slightly lower. The Excessive Rainfall Outlook shows a “Slight” risk (Level 2 of 4) for much of southern Louisiana Friday, tapering to “Marginal” by Saturday as the system weakens.
Rain is expected to taper off late Saturday as the tropical influence exits the region. Another update will be issued if conditions worsen.
