LOUISVILLE, KY – Snowflakes drift quietly through the cold December air this morning, coating windshields and sidewalks across the Ohio River Valley. At 31°, the air feels damp and raw — a dangerous setup for icy bridges and slick pavement across southern Indiana and central Kentucky.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. EST. The system is bringing mixed precipitation — light snow, freezing drizzle, and a thin glaze of ice — to much of the metro. While most areas will see less than an inch of accumulation, roads are already slick, especially along I-65, I-64, and I-71.

Officials urge drivers to slow down and use caution during the morning commute. Even light snow can create hazardous black ice, particularly on elevated surfaces. Pedestrians are also advised to tread carefully on steps and driveways as surfaces refreeze.

After the advisory lifts, skies will gradually clear with afternoon highs near 33°. Patchy fog could redevelop late tonight as calm winds return, followed by a brighter, milder stretch midweek. However, another chance of light snow returns Friday, signaling that winter’s grip on the Ohio Valley is just getting started.
