Indianapolis, Ind. – Scattered thunderstorms and dangerous heat will affect central Indiana today, with conditions expected to peak late this afternoon and evening. Drivers and residents should prepare for damaging winds, heavy rain, and heat indices topping 100 degrees, particularly in southern counties.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, storms will develop through Tuesday afternoon, with isolated severe storms possible. Lightning and downpours may reduce visibility on interstates including I-65, I-69, and I-70 during the evening commute. Heat and humidity will push “feels like” temperatures as high as 105 degrees south of Bloomington and Columbus.
The storm risk is expected to diminish after sunset, with drier weather moving in by Wednesday. The rest of the week looks calmer, with partly to mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the low to mid-80s through the weekend.
Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours and stay hydrated. Spotters are encouraged to report strong winds to the National Weather Service, but widespread severe weather is not anticipated after tonight.
Warnings remain in effect through this evening, with the next update expected later today.
