PADUCAH, Ky. – Warm, golden afternoons will soon give way to a soggy turn as fall rain returns to western Kentucky by Saturday. After midweek sunshine and near-record highs, a cooler, wetter shift will close the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, calm winds and clear skies will dominate through Friday, sending highs soaring into the low 80s. Commuters along I-24 and U.S. 60 will enjoy smooth travel under sunny skies Wednesday and Thursday, but those planning outdoor events or pumpkin patch visits should prepare for changes by Saturday afternoon.

Forecasters expect scattered showers and possible thunderstorms to develop across McCracken, Ballard, and Graves counties late Saturday, followed by a notable cooldown on Sunday. Winds could gust up to 20 mph as the front passes. The NWS advises securing lightweight decorations and checking drainage around homes to prevent minor flooding where leaves may clog storm grates.

Friday remains the pick day of the week—dry, mild, and breezy, ideal for fall yardwork or outdoor football games. By contrast, Sunday will feel sharply cooler, with highs only in the upper 60s and a stiff northwest wind. Sunshine returns early next week, helping dry things out as Halloween decorations go up across western Kentucky.

Residents are urged to monitor local updates for any lightning or storm advisories, particularly for Saturday evening events. The weekend’s rain marks a clear seasonal turn as fall settles in across the lower Ohio Valley.
