PADUCAH, Ky. – Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected to soak western Kentucky through Tuesday, raising the risk of localized flooding—especially across the Kentucky Pennyrile. Monday’s storms are expected to continue into the night, bringing downpours and isolated lightning that could make travel hazardous early Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, training storms—cells repeatedly moving over the same areas—may cause flooding in low-lying and poor-drainage zones Tuesday morning through early afternoon. The heaviest rainfall is expected along the I-24 corridor, including Paducah, Mayfield, and Murray, where some rural routes could briefly flood.

Residents are urged to avoid driving through water-covered roads and to secure outdoor items ahead of the storms. The rain will taper off by Tuesday evening, giving way to clearer skies and calmer conditions by Wednesday.

Sunny and dry weather is expected to return midweek, with highs in the mid-70s and cooler nights ahead. No spotter activation is anticipated at this time, but additional statements could be issued if rainfall intensifies.
