Paducah, KY – Strong thunderstorms could develop across western Kentucky and surrounding states Sunday afternoon, bringing gusty winds, hail, and localized downpours to the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, scattered storms are expected across southeast Missouri, far southern Illinois, and western Kentucky through tonight. Storm activity will likely intensify after 2 p.m., with the potential for brief strong winds and heavy rainfall across counties including McCracken, Graves, Ballard, and Calloway.
While today’s storms may remain isolated, the threat returns midweek. Starting Wednesday, daily chances for thunderstorms are expected across the region through Saturday. The NWS notes it’s too early to determine if any of these will be severe, but persistent rain could lead to localized flooding in low-lying or poorly drained areas.
Travelers on I-24 and US-60 should remain alert for sudden weather changes. Secure loose outdoor items and avoid flooded roadways. Although no widespread severe weather is forecast at this time, conditions may change with short notice.
Storm chances ramp up again Wednesday night, with Thursday showing the highest potential for sustained rainfall. Additional advisories may be issued early in the week.
