Paducah, Kentucky – Dense fog blanketed roads across southeast Missouri, southern Illinois, and western Kentucky early Monday, prompting the National Weather Service to extend a Dense Fog Advisory until 8 a.m. CDT. Visibility has dropped to one quarter mile or less in many areas, creating hazardous travel conditions along major highways and rural routes.

According to the US National Weather Service Paducah office, the advisory covers communities including Cape Girardeau, Marion, Paducah, and Hopkinsville. Drivers on Interstates 57, 24, and 55 are urged to reduce speed, use low-beam headlights, and keep extra distance between vehicles. School bus routes and morning commutes are expected to be delayed in several counties.

Low visibility is especially dangerous near rivers, open fields, and bridges. Emergency management teams remind residents to allow extra travel time, avoid passing vehicles, and never use high beams in fog. Similar fog advisories have occurred in this region during humid July mornings, but today’s dense coverage is more widespread.

The advisory is expected to lift by mid-morning, though patches of lingering fog may persist in low-lying areas. More updates are possible if conditions worsen or if additional counties are affected.
