Marion, Illinois – A confirmed tornado touched down just south of Marion at 6:20 p.m. Thursday, prompting a rare Tornado Emergency as the life-threatening storm moves east toward Creal Springs and Carrier Mills.
According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, the tornado was spotted on radar south of Marion and is tracking east-northeast into southern Saline County. Residents near or north of Creal Springs and along Route 166 should seek shelter immediately. The warning extends into Carrier Mills, with debris signatures indicating the twister is on the ground and potentially causing damage.
Johnston City, Pittsburg, and Spillertown are also in the storm’s projected path. Local emergency officials urge residents to stay away from windows and take cover in a basement or interior room on the lowest floor. Mobile homes and vehicles are especially vulnerable.
This is a particularly dangerous situation with the potential for catastrophic damage. Power outages and debris-related road closures are possible through the evening.
