Mount Vernon, IL – Southern Illinois residents should brace for light snowfall Monday morning, with isolated areas receiving up to one inch. The snow is expected to begin during the early commute hours and extend through mid-morning.

According to the National Weather Service, an upper air disturbance moving through the region will bring the snow, which could create slick spots on roads as temperatures hover near freezing. Drivers are urged to allow extra time for their morning travel and remain alert for icy patches on untreated surfaces.

By afternoon, the snowfall will move into southwest Indiana and western Kentucky’s Pennyrile region, where similar conditions are expected. While accumulations will be minimal, even a light dusting can reduce traction and visibility, particularly on bridges and overpasses.

Temperatures on Monday will range from the mid-30s to low 40s, with light winds contributing to a brisk feel throughout the day. Tuesday is expected to be mostly dry but chilly, with highs reaching the low 40s.

Looking ahead, the week will bring a mix of sunshine and clouds with a warming trend starting Thursday, when highs will approach 50 degrees. No significant storms are forecast through the weekend, offering residents a reprieve after Monday’s snow.
