Paducah, KY – The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a Freeze Watch for portions of southern Illinois and southeast Missouri, as a strong cold front brings the potential for sub-freezing temperatures late Saturday night, November 1.
The watch includes Jefferson, Franklin, Williamson, Jackson, and Union Counties in Illinois, as well as Cape Girardeau, Butler, Stoddard, and Perry Counties in Missouri.
Forecasters warn that overnight lows could fall to around 30 degrees, leading to the season’s first widespread frost and freeze conditions. These temperatures could damage sensitive vegetation and unprotected outdoor plumbing if precautions aren’t taken.
Residents are urged to cover plants, drain outdoor sprinklers, and wrap exposed pipes before temperatures drop late Saturday night. Farmers and gardeners across the Missouri Bootheel and southern Illinois should take extra care to protect crops.
The freeze marks the arrival of much colder air across the region, signaling the transition to November’s more wintry weather pattern. Conditions are expected to moderate slightly by early next week.
