Paducah, KY – Residents across Kentucky are facing bone-chilling cold today, but relief is on the way as temperatures rise into the weekend. Wind chills will remain dangerously low this morning, with values as cold as -10°F.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a cold weather advisory is in effect until 9 a.m. today. Frostbite and hypothermia risks are high, so residents should limit outdoor activities and wear layered clothing. By Thursday, highs are expected to reach 40°F, signaling a much-needed warming trend.
The five-day forecast reveals a gradual shift. Friday brings sunny skies with highs near 33°F, while Saturday warms to nearly 50°F. However, southerly winds pushing the warmer air will also bring a slight chance of rain Saturday evening. By Sunday, a mix of rain and snow could complicate travel conditions on major roadways, including I-24 and US 60.
Residents are advised to monitor the forecast and prepare for changing weather. Portable heaters should be used safely indoors, and outdoor pets need adequate shelter as temperatures remain low overnight.
Despite the thaw, conditions will remain variable through the weekend. A brief return to winter weather is possible early next week, making vigilance critical for road safety and travel plans.
