PADUCAH, Ky. – Early commuters across the Quad State may run into patchy dense fog this morning, with visibility dropping to a quarter mile or less in some spots. The thickest fog is being reported in the Ozark Foothills of southeast Missouri and along the Interstate 64 corridor in southern Illinois and southwest Indiana.
According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, additional fog pockets could form before sunrise, particularly in low-lying areas and near rivers. Drivers should reduce speed, keep headlights on low beam, and allow extra travel time.
In southeast Missouri, stretches of Highway 67 and rural routes through Butler and Carter counties are seeing the most significant impacts. In southern Illinois, dense fog is slowing traffic from Mount Vernon through Evansville, especially near the Wabash River. Southwest Indiana counties, including Posey and Warrick, are also under the advisory.
Conditions are expected to improve by mid-morning as temperatures rise and fog dissipates. However, the weather service cautions that visibility may fluctuate quickly until then.
