Paducah, Kentucky – Gusty winds up to 35 mph could increase fire danger across western Kentucky through Tuesday evening, even as temperatures climb into the low 80s.
According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, dry air and strong southerly winds will combine Monday and Tuesday, creating conditions where fires could spread quickly, especially in open fields and along roadways. Officials urge residents to avoid outdoor burning as wind gusts peak during the afternoon hours.
Cities including Paducah, Mayfield, Murray, and Hopkinsville will see above-normal warmth through midweek, with highs ranging from the upper 70s to mid-80s. Travel along I-24 and U.S. 60 may be impacted by crosswinds, particularly for high-profile vehicles.
Rain chances return by Wednesday, but the more widespread impact arrives Thursday into Friday, when multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms could bring 1 to 2 inches of rainfall across the region. Localized ponding on roads and reduced visibility are likely during heavier downpours.
Residents should secure loose outdoor items now, delay any burning, and prepare for changing conditions later this week. Additional advisories, including fire weather alerts and storm watches, may be issued as the pattern shifts.
