Paducah, KY – Southern Illinois, Kentucky, and Missouri are bracing for extreme heat and thunderstorms early next week. Temperatures are set to soar to triple digits, with a heat index reaching up to 107 degrees.
According to the US National Weather Service in Paducah, the heat index will range from 95 to 102 degrees through Sunday, increasing significantly to 98 to 107 degrees on Monday and Tuesday. Actual temperatures are expected to hit 100 degrees on Tuesday in some areas.
The forecast also predicts showers and thunderstorms late Saturday night into Sunday. Another round of thunderstorms is expected to return Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday, offering some respite from the oppressive heat. Cooler, more seasonable temperatures are anticipated by mid-week.
Residents of Kentucky, Missouri, and southern Illinois are advised to take precautions against the heat.
