Paducah, KY – Emergency Management is reporting flash flooding in Murphysboro, IL, early Saturday morning, prompting water rescues on Business Route 13 at the Union Pacific Railroad underpass. The Flood Advisory has been upgraded to a Flash Flood Warning, effective until 7 a.m. today.
According to the U.S. National Weather Service in Paducah, a small complex of storms dropped 1.5 to 2 inches of rain in Murphysboro, Carbondale, and Makanda. This downpour is expected to cause minor flooding issues, especially on roads.
Residents are advised to turn around and avoid walking or driving through flooded areas. Safety officials emphasize moving to higher ground immediately. The affected area, including Harrison and Pomona, has a population of approximately 47,186, with 16 schools and 2 hospitals.
The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Advisory for southern Illinois until 7 a.m. today. Drivers are urged to exercise caution and be vigilant for flooded or ponding roads.
