Paducah, KY – Southern Illinois, western Kentucky, southeast Missouri, and parts of southwest Indiana are bracing for a dangerous stretch of heat as temperatures soar and humidity surges through early next week.
According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, a Heat Advisory will take effect at noon Saturday and remain in place until 7 p.m. Tuesday. Heat index values are expected to range between 100 to 108 degrees, marking the first extended heat event of 2025.
Communities across the region—including Paducah, Cape Girardeau, Marion, Owensboro, and Evansville—will feel the impact, especially during the afternoon and early evening hours. The risk of heat-related illnesses will increase, particularly for those without access to air conditioning or who work outdoors.
Local emergency management agencies urge residents to stay indoors during peak heat, stay hydrated, and check on elderly neighbors. Light, loose-fitting clothing and avoiding midday sun exposure are also advised.
Heat-sensitive infrastructure, such as roadways and power grids, may experience stress. School athletic practices and outdoor events may be rescheduled or canceled due to safety concerns.
This advisory could be extended or upgraded depending on humidity trends and air temperatures. More updates are expected through the weekend.
