Bridgeport, Connecticut – A powerful winter storm is set to impact southern Connecticut and nearby parts of New York and New Jersey beginning early Sunday, bringing heavy snowfall and hazardous travel conditions that could last into Monday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in New York, a Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 3 a.m. Sunday until 6 p.m. Monday for much of southern Connecticut, northeast New Jersey, and southeast New York. Snowfall totals between 12 and 16 inches are expected across the region, including Fairfield, New Haven, Middlesex, and New London counties, as well as portions of the Hudson Valley.

Regional impacts are expected to be significant. Snow will intensify Sunday morning, with periods of heavy snowfall reducing visibility below a quarter mile at times. Roads, bridges, and overpasses are likely to become slick and hazardous as snow accumulates rapidly. Conditions may deteriorate quickly on major routes including Interstate 95, the Merritt Parkway, Interstate 84, and local state highways.

Communities from Stamford and Bridgeport to New Haven, Middletown, and New London should prepare for prolonged winter conditions. Emergency officials urge residents to delay travel from Sunday into Monday, winterize vehicles, and have emergency supplies ready in case travel becomes unavoidable.

The Winter Storm Warning remains in effect through Monday evening, and additional updates are possible as the storm evolves. Residents are encouraged to monitor local alerts and plan ahead for dangerous conditions through the end of the weekend.
