Pueblo, CO – A high wind watch is in effect across southern Colorado on Tuesday, with dangerous gusts and blowing dust expected to impact communities from Alamosa to Springfield.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, the alert spans from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 1. Forecasters warn of southwest winds ranging from 30 to 40 mph, with isolated gusts reaching up to 60 mph. The warning covers multiple counties including Pueblo, Las Animas, Otero, Baca, Prowers, and the San Luis Valley.

Officials caution that the strong winds could topple trees and power lines, increasing the risk of outages throughout the region. Drivers—particularly those operating high-profile vehicles—are urged to use caution, especially on north-south roads where crosswinds could prove hazardous.

Blowing dust is also a significant concern. Reduced visibility may impact major routes such as U.S. Highway 50 and Interstate 25, especially near open fields or construction zones.

Residents should secure outdoor items and remain weather-aware throughout the day. The strongest wind activity is expected during mid to late morning hours, persisting into the evening.

Stay tuned to local alerts and updates as the system develops.
