Pueblo, CO – A major shift toward cooler and more unsettled weather arrives in Colorado beginning Sunday, bringing mountain snow, gusty winds, and a return to more seasonal temperatures for the upcoming week.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, snow will spread into the mountains Sunday afternoon, with the heaviest snowfall expected across the eastern San Juan Mountains from Sunday night into Monday morning. Higher peaks may see significant accumulation as the system moves steadily across the Continental Divide.
Travelers should be prepared for deteriorating conditions, especially across routes such as Wolf Creek Pass, where slick and snow-packed roads may develop overnight. Forecasters warn that winds from 20 to 45 mph, with stronger gusts along higher elevations, may cause blowing snow and reduced visibility late Sunday into early Monday.
Temperatures remain at or above normal across much of southern Colorado on Sunday, with highs near 60 degrees in Pueblo, Walsenburg, Trinidad, and La Junta. Cooler air settles in after the front moves through, with highs dropping into the 40s and 50s across the region through midweek. Areas such as Alamosa, Leadville, Buena Vista, and Westcliffe will see the biggest cooldown, with temperatures trending below average by Thursday and Friday.
Snowfall decreases rapidly Monday as the system moves east, though additional rounds of mainly mountain snow remain possible through next week as a more unsettled pattern continues.
