Pueblo, Colorado – Scattered severe thunderstorms could rattle southern and eastern Colorado through Tuesday evening, with damaging wind gusts and flash flooding posing a serious threat, especially along and north of Highway 50.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, storms will begin developing around noon over the mountains before intensifying and moving eastward into the plains this afternoon and evening. Affected areas include Pueblo, La Junta, Las Animas, Springfield, and Colorado Springs. A slight risk for severe weather remains in place across much of the region, with some enhanced risk pockets.

Communities from Trinidad to Eads could see hail up to 1.5 inches, wind gusts reaching 60 mph, and dangerous lightning. Locally heavy rainfall may trigger flash flooding in urban areas and near recent burn scars. Mountain towns like Salida and Buena Vista will also see storms despite cooler highs in the 60s and 70s.

Residents are urged to avoid travel during peak storm hours, secure outdoor objects, and stay alert for warnings. Power outages and minor flooding are possible in low-lying areas.

Thunderstorm chances will taper off late tonight, but additional storms are possible later this week. Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio and local alerts.
