Alamosa, Colo. – Farmers and gardeners across southern Colorado should prepare for a sharp overnight chill as the National Weather Service issued a Frost Advisory for the San Luis Valley from 3 a.m. until 9 a.m. Thursday.
According to the Weather Service office in Pueblo, temperatures are expected to dip as low as 32 degrees in Alamosa, Monte Vista, Sanford, San Luis, and surrounding towns. The cold air will settle into low-lying areas, making sensitive vegetation particularly vulnerable to frost damage.
Communities such as La Jara, Fort Garland, Blanca, and Manassa could wake up to icy patches on windshields and brittle grass. Agricultural producers and home gardeners are urged to cover tender plants, bring potted vegetation indoors, and disconnect outdoor hoses to prevent freezing.
Drivers may also notice slick spots on rural roads in shaded areas at daybreak, though widespread travel hazards are not anticipated.
The advisory remains in effect through Thursday morning, with similar cold nights possible into the weekend as clear skies allow heat to escape after sunset. Additional frost advisories could be issued if conditions persist.
