Colorado Springs, CO – Strong thunderstorms will fire up across southern Colorado Tuesday afternoon, bringing a risk of damaging hail, heavy rain, and localized flash flooding—especially for the mountains and adjacent plains.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, storms will begin after 3 p.m. and could intensify quickly, producing wind gusts up to 50 mph and hailstones as large as 1.5 inches in areas like the Sangre de Cristo and Wet Mountains. The southeast plains, including Trinidad, La Junta, and Springfield, may see storms persist into the overnight hours with frequent lightning and localized flooding possible.

Urban areas like Colorado Springs and Pueblo may also experience isolated storms during the evening, with a chance of brief downpours. Residents in burn scar zones and low-lying regions should be alert for fast-moving water or debris flows. Thunderstorms are expected to redevelop Wednesday, again posing hail and flooding risks.

Most of the region will dry out Thursday through Saturday, but storms could return Sunday into early next week. Spotters are encouraged to report severe conditions.
