Alamosa, Colorado – Temperatures in the San Luis Valley are expected to dip to near freezing early Sunday, prompting a Frost Advisory from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m., with residents urged to protect vulnerable plants and outdoor vegetation.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, both the Central and Southern San Luis Valley—covering cities like Alamosa, Monte Vista, San Luis, and Fort Garland—will experience temperatures as low as 32°F. The cold snap could damage unprotected crops and gardens, especially in low-lying and rural areas where frost is likely to settle more quickly.
Homeowners in towns including Antonito, La Jara, Manassa, and Sanford should bring in potted plants or cover sensitive vegetation overnight. Those in agriculture or gardening should also insulate any exposed irrigation lines or vulnerable equipment.
The advisory is short-lived, ending by 9 a.m. Sunday as temperatures rise, but additional early-morning chills are possible into early next week.
