Pueblo, CO – The National Weather Service in Pueblo has issued a Freeze Watch for parts of southern Colorado, in effect from Tuesday evening through Wednesday morning, as temperatures are forecast to plunge into the teens overnight.
The alert covers the Canon City vicinity and eastern Fremont County, along with Baca County, including the cities of Canon City, Penrose, Springfield, and Walsh. Forecasters warn of subfreezing temperatures as low as 14°F, marking a hard freeze that could kill crops, harm sensitive vegetation, and damage unprotected plumbing.
Residents are urged to cover outdoor plants, drain irrigation lines, and wrap exposed pipes to prevent freezing. Pets should be brought indoors or provided with warm shelter as temperatures dip well below freezing.
According to the NWS, this will likely be one of the coldest nights so far this fall, signaling the transition to winter weather across the southern plains and foothills. Daytime highs are expected to remain chilly Wednesday before gradual warming later in the week.
