Colorado Springs, Colo. – Dangerous thunderstorms will sweep across southern Colorado through Saturday, bringing gusty winds, hail, and a risk of flash flooding that could affect travel and outdoor plans.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, storms Friday afternoon and evening will carry the highest risk, with outflow winds reaching 50 to 60 mph along the Continental Divide and across the southeast plains. Heavy downpours could trigger localized flooding, especially near burn scars and mountain passes. Small hail is also possible.
Areas around Colorado Springs, Pueblo, and Alamosa should prepare for rapidly changing conditions on roads, where reduced visibility and ponding water may develop. Drivers are urged to slow down and avoid flooded crossings. Hikers and campers in the Sangre de Cristo, Wet, and San Juan Mountains should move to lower ground as storms may intensify quickly over higher terrain.
Thunderstorm chances ease slightly after Saturday, but isolated showers and gusty winds could linger into early next week. Sunny, calmer weather is expected to return by Monday across much of southern Colorado.
