Colorado Springs, Colo. – Afternoon storms are set to intensify across southern and central Colorado today, raising the risk for flash flooding and dangerous travel conditions, especially along the I-25 corridor.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop this afternoon and evening, with the strongest storms capable of producing wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail near one inch in diameter. Areas that have already received heavy rainfall in recent days are most vulnerable to flash flooding.
Localized flooding concerns will be highest in El Paso, Pueblo, and Fremont counties, with low-lying roads and burn scar regions at greater risk. Drivers are urged to avoid flooded roadways and monitor conditions closely. Residents are also advised to secure outdoor items that could be damaged or blown away by high winds.
Storm chances remain elevated Friday, when another round of strong to severe thunderstorms could bring hail up to 1.5 inches and wind gusts exceeding 60 mph. Conditions are expected to ease slightly by Sunday, though daily afternoon storms remain possible into midweek, particularly over the mountains.
