Colorado Springs, Colo. – Storms are back on the radar for southern Colorado, with Sunday afternoon bringing scattered thunderstorms capable of gusty winds and heavy rainfall. Travelers along the I-25 corridor should watch for reduced visibility and quick ponding during downpours.

According to the National Weather Service, Colorado Springs carries a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms Sunday after 2 p.m., with highs near 80°F. Winds could gust up to 30 mph in stronger cells. The Hazardous Weather Outlook highlights potential for brief heavy rain, small hail, and lightning along the southern Front Range and eastern plains.

Storm chances ease Monday, but stronger storms are possible Tuesday afternoon near the Kansas border, where instability increases. Large hail and damaging winds could accompany these storms before conditions turn drier by late week.

Drivers using I-25, U.S. 50, and Highway 24 should be alert to sudden weather changes, particularly during evening commutes. Outflow winds may reduce visibility with blowing dust east of Pueblo and La Junta. Outdoor events should be monitored closely, as lightning remains the primary hazard across El Paso and Pueblo Counties.

The NOAA 6–10 day outlook keeps Colorado near-normal on precipitation, meaning scattered storms remain possible without prolonged wet stretches. Still, any single storm could disrupt travel or trigger localized flooding.

More updates are expected if severe weather watches are issued early this week.
