Pueblo, Colo. – Triple-digit heat index values are pushing parts of central and southeastern Colorado into dangerous territory Saturday, prompting a Heat Advisory that remains in effect until 9 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, areas including Colorado Springs, Pueblo, La Junta, and Lamar could see heat index readings between 94 and 105 degrees through the evening. The advisory covers El Paso, Fremont, Bent, Kiowa, Otero, and Prowers counties, where the mix of heat and humidity poses a risk for heat-related illness.

Cities like Canon City, Rocky Ford, and Sheridan Lake are feeling the brunt of the heat. Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity, stay hydrated, and avoid sun exposure during peak hours. Vulnerable populations—especially seniors and young children—should be monitored closely. Local emergency management teams recommend checking on neighbors without access to air conditioning.

This heat wave follows a stretch of above-average June temperatures and continues to stress local power grids and health systems. While conditions are expected to ease overnight, more heat advisories could return as early as next week.

Stay tuned to local updates and take precautions until the advisory ends at 9 p.m. MDT.
