Pueblo, CO – A sharp cool-down is bringing rain, snow, and even frost to southern Colorado this week. The National Weather Service in Pueblo reports that scattered showers and thunderstorms will impact lower elevations through Tuesday, while higher elevations are seeing early-season snowfall.
According to the NWS, mountain peaks above 12,000 feet could receive an additional 1 to 3 inches of snow by Tuesday evening. Forecast highs today range from the mid-40s in the mountains to the mid-70s across the southeastern plains. Cloudier skies and wet conditions will dominate much of the region through the day.
A Frost Advisory has also been issued for the San Luis Valley, in effect from 3 a.m. to 8 a.m. Wednesday. Overnight lows are expected to dip into the low 30s, creating the potential for frost that could damage sensitive vegetation. Residents are encouraged to cover plants and take precautions for outdoor pets.
Looking ahead, minimum temperatures across southern Colorado Wednesday morning will range from the lower 30s in Alamosa and Crestone to the upper 40s in areas east of Pueblo and Lamar. Commuters and early risers should be prepared for slick spots in mountain areas and a chilly start across the valley.
