Pueblo, CO – Dangerous heat and increasing wildfire risks will grip much of southern and eastern Colorado through Thursday, with highs pushing into the upper 90s for many areas. Pueblo is expected to hit 96°F, while La Junta could climb to 99°F under dry, windy conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, a Fire Weather Watch is in effect for Thursday afternoon and evening as dry lightning from isolated thunderstorms could ignite new fires. The watch covers areas including Cañon City, Colorado Springs, Eads, Lamar, and La Junta. Moisture will remain limited until late Thursday night, when storm chances begin to increase.

Travelers and residents are urged to avoid any outdoor burning and to secure equipment that could spark a fire. Those working outdoors should be prepared for sudden lightning strikes even outside of rainfall areas.

Hot, dry weather is expected to persist through the rest of the week, with a gradual return of moisture this weekend that may bring cooler temperatures and better rain chances.
