According to the National Weather Service, areas in the Southern Sangre de Cristo Mountains, Wet Mountains, and surrounding regions could see snow accumulations ranging from 4 to 8 inches, with higher amounts on east-facing slopes. Winds will gust as high as 45 mph, creating hazardous conditions, especially over mountain passes.
The warning includes areas like Weston, Rye, and Trinidad, where snow could cause slushy and snow-packed roads, making travel difficult. Officials are advising those traveling in the affected areas to carry extra flashlights, food, and water in their vehicles. Road conditions can be monitored by calling 511 for the latest updates.
