Los Angeles, CA – Southern California residents should prepare for scattered showers and possible thunderstorms beginning today and continuing through Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Los Angeles/Oxnard office.

NWS meteorologists said the best chances for thunderstorms will occur from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday afternoon, with the highest risk over San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura counties. Los Angeles County could also see periods of rain and possible lightning.

According to the NWS, rainfall totals are expected to remain light, generally between 0.1 and 0.5 inches. However, isolated downpours could bring up to 0.25 inches per hour, particularly in areas hit by thunderstorms. Forecasters warned of moderate risk impacts including slick roads, reduced visibility, and possible debris flows near recent burn areas.

Showers may develop at any time, but Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday is currently the most likely window for heavier rainfall. Confidence in the forecast remains moderate, and officials noted that conditions could shift as the storm system approaches.

Residents are advised to monitor weather updates and take precautions if traveling, especially on mountain roads and highways prone to flooding.
