Los Angeles, CA – Residents across Southwest California are being warned of a heightened risk for severe thunderstorms tonight through Tuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard office.

Forecasters say the storm system could bring local damaging wind gusts over 60 mph, brief but intense downpours, and small hail. The greatest thunderstorm probabilities—between 20% and 45%—stretch across Los Angeles, Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo counties.

According to the NWS, “conditions are also favorable for rotating storms,” meaning isolated waterspouts over the ocean and tornadoes over land cannot be ruled out. The pattern is consistent with a classic Southwest California severe weather setup seen in past October events.

Meteorologists warn that strong upper-level winds could mix to the surface, leading to downed trees and potential power outages. Lightning and small hail are also possible, particularly in coastal and valley regions.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, monitor local alerts, and avoid travel during periods of heavy rain or lightning.

This severe weather risk will continue through early Tuesday morning, with conditions expected to gradually improve by midweek.
