BIG BEAR CITY, Calif. – Four small earthquakes struck in quick succession early Sunday north of Big Bear City, giving the San Bernardino Mountains a predawn jolt but leaving no major damage reported.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey and California Integrated Seismic Network (CISN), the strongest of the cluster measured magnitude 3.5, followed closely by 3.4, 3.5, and 2.5 events between 11 p.m. Saturday and shortly before 6 a.m. Sunday. All quakes were centered about 7 kilometers north of Big Bear City, at depths ranging from 5 to 7 kilometers.

Residents across Big Bear Lake, Fawnskin, Sugarloaf, and Minnelusa reported light shaking, with community intensity levels reaching III to IV on the USGS scale.

No injuries or structural damage but advised locals to check emergency supplies, secure loose objects, and inspect gas lines. Minor rattling was noted in cabins and businesses along Highway 18.

Seismologists say the region often experiences short bursts of seismic activity without escalation, though aftershocks remain possible through Sunday night.
