Ventura, CA – The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch from 8 p.m. Monday through 3 p.m. Tuesday for Los Angeles, Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo counties, citing high risks of debris flows and road flooding near recent burn scars.
Meteorologists warn that rain totals between 0.75 and 1.5 inches are expected, with isolated mountain areas receiving up to four inches. The heaviest rainfall is projected overnight, accompanied by thunderstorms capable of producing intense bursts of rain—up to an inch per hour.
The NWS cautioned that burn scar regions face a heightened threat of canyon rock slides and shallow urban flooding, particularly along steep terrain and narrow roadways. Residents are advised to avoid travel, stay off mountain roads, and monitor emergency alerts.
Authorities also noted the potential for strong winds or an isolated tornado, though flooding remains the primary concern. “Avoid the roads as much as possible and stay indoors,” officials said.
Rain is expected to subside by Tuesday afternoon, though runoff impacts may linger into the evening commute.
