San Diego, California – Wind gusts up to 65 mph are slamming Southern California deserts and mountain passes this afternoon, threatening power outages and dangerous crosswinds on major highways through early Friday.

According to the National Weather Service in San Diego, a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 2 a.m. Friday for coastal and valley communities, including San Diego, Orange County, the Inland Empire and the Santa Ana Mountains. Gusts between 30 and 40 mph are expected in cities such as Anaheim, Riverside, San Bernardino and Chula Vista, with the strongest winds peaking this afternoon.

Farther east, advisories continue until 9 a.m. Friday for the Coachella Valley, San Diego County Deserts, Apple and Lucerne Valleys and the San Gorgonio Pass near Banning. West winds of 30 to 45 mph will gust from 55 to 65 mph near foothills and through wind-prone corridors along Interstate 10 and Highway 111. Blowing dust may sharply reduce visibility near Palm Springs, Indio and Borrego Springs.

High-profile vehicles face the greatest risk, especially through the San Gorgonio Pass and along I-15 near Victorville. Residents should secure outdoor furniture and avoid parking beneath large trees. Winds will gradually weaken Friday afternoon, but additional updates are possible if gusts exceed projections overnight.
