San Diego, California – Wet snow and wind gusts up to 75 mph will batter the San Diego County Mountains through Thursday evening, creating slick roads and the risk of downed trees.

According to the National Weather Service in San Diego, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 p.m. PST Thursday for elevations across the county mountains, including Julian and Pine Valley. An additional 3 to 6 inches of snow is expected through Wednesday for elevations below 5,500 feet, with another 1 to 3 inches possible Thursday. Peak wind gusts of 50 to 60 mph are forecast, with isolated gusts up to 75 mph Wednesday morning.

Snow-covered stretches of Interstate 8 near Pine Valley and State Route 78 near Julian could become hazardous, especially during the Wednesday morning and evening commutes. Strong winds may snap tree limbs and create isolated power outages.

Blowing snow could reduce visibility at times, particularly on exposed ridges. Drivers should reduce speed, carry chains if traveling through higher elevations and check Caltrans road conditions by calling 511 before departure.

Snow showers and gusty winds will gradually ease late Thursday night, but slick conditions may linger in shaded areas beyond 10 p.m.
