Los Angeles, California – Wind gusts up to 45 mph are sweeping across Los Angeles and Ventura counties this afternoon, threatening downed tree limbs and scattered power outages before the evening commute peaks.

According to the National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard, a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 9 p.m. PST. Southwest winds between 15 and 30 mph will continue across the Central Coast, Santa Barbara County, Ventura County, and much of Los Angeles County, including downtown Los Angeles, Santa Clarita, Malibu and Long Beach.

High-profile vehicles on U.S. 101 through the Ventura County coast and Interstate 5 near Santa Clarita could face difficult driving conditions, especially in open corridors and mountain passes. Gusts may topple unsecured outdoor furniture, blow debris onto roadways and knock down small tree limbs in neighborhoods from Pasadena to Oxnard. Coastal communities including Santa Monica, Redondo Beach and Pismo Beach will also see strong crosswinds.

Residents should secure loose outdoor items and charge electronic devices in case isolated outages develop. Drivers, especially those in trucks and vans, should keep both hands on the wheel and allow extra stopping distance. Winds are expected to ease after 9 p.m., though breezy conditions may linger into late Thursday night.
