San Diego, California – Drivers across Southern California face sudden 40 mph wind gusts that could knock down tree limbs and trigger isolated power outages before 2 a.m. Friday.

According to the National Weather Service in San Diego, a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 2 a.m. PST Friday for Orange County, the Inland Empire, San Diego County coastal and valley areas, and the Santa Ana Mountains and foothills. Southwest winds of 15 to 25 mph are producing gusts between 30 and 40 mph, with the strongest winds expected through late Thursday afternoon and evening.

Impacts stretch from San Diego, Chula Vista and Oceanside north through Anaheim, Irvine and Huntington Beach, and inland across Riverside, San Bernardino, Ontario and Rancho Cucamonga. High-profile vehicles on Interstates 5, 15 and 215, along with Highways 91 and 78, may experience difficult crosswinds, especially in open valleys and near mountain passes.

Loose outdoor furniture, trash bins and construction materials could become airborne. Residents should secure lightweight items immediately and charge electronic devices in case of brief outages.

Winds are expected to gradually ease after 2 a.m. Friday, but additional advisories could follow if gusts remain elevated into the early morning hours.
