Los Angeles, CA – Fire danger remains critical across portions of Southern California through Wednesday evening as Santa Ana winds and very low humidity create ideal conditions for wildfire ignition and rapid spread. The National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard has extended a Red Flag Warning until 6 p.m. PDT Wednesday, Oct. 29, for the western San Gabriel Mountains, Santa Susana Mountains, and southeastern Ventura County valleys.
Forecasters report northeast winds of 15–25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, strongest through Wednesday morning, combined with minimum humidity levels falling to 5–10% and poor overnight recovery.
“These conditions will favor rapid fire growth and long-range spotting if any ignition occurs,” the NWS warned. “Residents near wildland areas should be ready to evacuate at short notice.”
The agency urges the public to avoid any outdoor burning or activities that could spark flames, such as using power tools near dry brush or discarding cigarettes. Local fire agencies have increased staffing and patrols across high-risk corridors including Highway 14 and the Ventura Freeway foothills.
