Los Angeles, Calif. – Angelenos should brace for a wet Thursday morning as showers and possible thunderstorms move across the basin, with the heaviest rain expected late morning into early afternoon. Some pockets could see brief downpours before skies begin clearing by Friday.

According to the National Weather Service in Oxnard, rain chances remain near 70% Thursday with totals ranging from a tenth to a quarter of an inch, though isolated thunderstorms may bring higher amounts. Winds will shift out of the southwest at 10 mph, adding to slick travel conditions on freeways including the 10, 101, and 5.

By Friday, precipitation tapers off to scattered showers before skies turn mostly clear overnight. Highs climb back into the lower 80s for Los Angeles, Pasadena, and Long Beach on Saturday and Sunday, bringing a return of dry, sunny conditions. The brief cool-down should end quickly, with temperatures expected to rise again into the mid-80s early next week.

Officials urge drivers to allow extra time on Thursday morning, as wet pavement and reduced visibility may cause slowdowns during the rush.

Californians can expect calmer weather through the weekend, but forecasters warn patchy coastal fog may return Sunday night into Monday morning.
