Tucson, AZ – Residents across southern Arizona should prepare for strong and potentially hazardous winds tonight through Sunday afternoon, as a Wind Advisory goes into effect for both valley and mountain locations.

According to the National Weather Service in Tucson, east winds will strengthen this evening in the mountains, then expand into valley areas early Sunday morning. Valley locations can expect sustained winds of 25 to 35 mph, with gusts reaching 40 to 45 mph. In localized wind-prone areas, gusts may climb as high as 55 to 60 mph.

Mountain areas will see the strongest impacts, with sustained winds of 35 to 45 mph and gusts up to 55 to 65 mph, especially in higher terrain and exposed locations. Forecasters warn that strong winds could lead to blowing dust, reduced visibility, and hazardous travel conditions.

The advisory is in effect from 5 a.m. Saturday through 2 p.m. Sunday, with peak impacts expected late tonight through Sunday morning. Areas particularly susceptible to strong east winds include Tucson’s foothills, Vail, Tanque Verde, Oracle, Saddlebrooke, and areas west and northwest of mountain ranges, where terrain can funnel and accelerate winds.

The National Weather Service cautions that loose outdoor objects may be blown around, tree limbs could be damaged, and high-profile vehicles may experience difficult driving conditions on east–west roadways.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, use caution while driving, and remain alert for rapidly changing conditions, especially near mountain passes and foothill communities.
